ENTRY Min. Requirement:

  • HKCEE Graduate or equivalent

  • Level 2 in English Language in the HKDSE Examination;

  • OR 

  • Level 2 in English Language in the HKCEE in or after 2007;

  • OR

  • Grade E in English Language (Syllabus B) or Grade C in English Language (Syllabus A) in HKCEE before 2007

  • Applicants with other equivalent qualifications will be considered on individual merit.

  • Go through internal Multiple Mini Interview process

Applicants are required to meet one of the following criteria with a competitive result, and demonstrate that they fulfill any prerequisite requirements and essential requirements for admission:

OR

Recent secondary education

  • Complete secondary qualifications equivalent to DSE, or with other equivalents

OR

Higher education study

  • Complete or partly complete a recognized higher education program at a recognized higher education institution

OR


Vocational Education and Training (VET)

  •     Complete an award from a registered training organization

OR

Work and life experience

  • Relevant work and life experience with certified documentation


Essential requirements for admission

English language entry requirements
In addition, in the aviation industry, English is essential for communicating and manual reading. A sufficient English level of reading, listening and speaking is important. Possession of one or more of above qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the Hong Kong Aviation Training Center. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Students need to go through the internal Multiple Mini Interview process for assessing their English level and skills of communication.

 

Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

  • Take the first steps towards becoming a pilot and get approximately 200 hours to obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).

  • Fly in your third semester in our flight training center located at Pitt Meadow Airport in Vancouver.

Aviation & Flight Operation overview

Take-off as Zero, Landing as Hero

Make your dreams of becoming a pilot reality with an innovative aviation diploma for students that include flight training. The Diploma in Aviation & Flight Operation provides a great foundation in the field of aviation practical flight operation and flight experience. Whilst some airlines prefer you to have a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), other airlines prefer to train you fully via a pilot cadet program.

With the launch of LCC low-cost carrier airlines in the market, a lot of airlines are looking into the cost-cutting pattern on their operation, cadet program from a non-experience interviewee is less attractive to be hired in the near future.

The flight training component is offered in 3rd semester of study - practical flying semester. In this course, you will log approximately 200 hours in a single-engine airplane to achieve the commercial pilot license (CPL) for those who meet the competencies. Flight training will be done at our flight training campus at Vancouver - Pitt Meadow Airport.

In your studies, you will also learn aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation and flight operation in our campus in Hong Kong and Vancouver. We work in close partnership with industry to ensure you will graduate ready to meet the growing global demand for pilots.

What you'll need

  • English language especially speaking, listening and reading are essential for our pilot training program.

 

  • For the flight training component of this Diploma, students must hold a minimum of a Category One Aviation medical examination with at least six months validity.

What you'll learn

You will undertake general studies in aviation operation including an introduction to human factors and safety management systems. You will do Private Pilot Licence Training Theory 1 and 2. These courses prepare you for Commercial Pilot Licence theory examinations.


As your studies progress you will explore more advanced and theoretical areas including meteorology, law, human factors and aspects of the flight and performance of large aircraft systems.

 

You will also study communication and aviation management. Your technical studies will include aerodynamics, heavy aircraft systems, navigation and risk and safety management.


Flight Training is part of this diploma. If students do not take up or delay the Flight training, you will not be graduate this diploma as a Diploma in Aviation & Flight Operation (CPL) until finish the flight training session.

Rules

 

For the flight training component of this Diploma, students must hold a minimum of a Category One Aviation medical examination with at least six months validity. 

 

Discipline of our students is one of the top priority in Hong Kong Aviation Training Center. School policy, rules and regulations are set for our student's reference. Students who do not comply with our rules and regulations may result from an oral reprimand to dismissal from our training center.

Flight training is required for completing this program. Students who do not take up or delay the Flight training, you will not be graduate this diploma as a Diploma in Aviation & Flight Operation (CPL) until finish the flight training session.

Study hours

For each course you study, students will need to allocate time for various classes such as lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals. Plus you will need additional hours to study in your own time to complete assignments, readings, projects and contribute to online e-learning. So as a general rule, if you are studying full-time you would need to allocate 15 – 25 hours of study when at our training center and 15 – 25 hours of independent study per week.
 


Assessment

Your studies at HKATC will incorporate both practical, professionally focused and research-based learning, so assessment types will vary.

 

You can expect them to include:

  • practical tasks and tests

  • practical assessments (e.g. flight, navigation)

  • essays and assignments examinations

  • an industry-relevant project

  • an oral or online presentation
